her paws shook and she tripped various times, listening to the screams of her brother. She had to get to him, she had to see he was ok.Ferndapple layed in the leaders den, the moon glistened high in the sky as Moonhigh rapidly approached them. Ferndapple sighed, and looked to the nest below her. taking up the very same spot Shadestar once occupied. Her black, thick form used to sleep in the very same nest Ferndapple was currently laying in. Her vibrant grren eyes coasted a spooky look in the shadows of the stone rock of the musty den. Ferndapple shivered. It was cold, how did Shadestar even live with the Stoney wall? Shadestar... Such a sleek figure, she was like a stone, the rock for her clan, cheering up her clan mates when she saw they needed it. Especially for Basilpaw. Basilpaw was so heartbroken when she saw him cry and scream. It wasnt his fault. But Shadestar had been a mother figure form Basilpaw. He couldn't help the raging emotions within his system. He needed Shadestar back, like we all did.
Tonight Ferndapple was traveling to the high stone to consult Starclan. She wasn't ready to step up. She didn't have the traits needed for the position. Shadestar was so wrapped in Basilpaw and helping him, and training him, that she forgot all about poor Ferndapple. She didnt mind though. She had a basic grasp on what to do. But surely someone else was fit for the job. Ferndapple sighed, and stirred in her nest. From around her, she could hear the loud, vibrant purrs of the kits in the nursery. Apprentice staying up late, and mentors going in to bark at them to sleep, sentries at their post guarding their camp. A slow, heartfelt smile lifted upon her face. Her clan was managing so well with the shocking news. She was so proud of them.
But Basilpaw.. Basilpaw was scaring her. He looked up to Shadestar as a mother figure. But where was that figure to Basilpaw now? Ferndapple couldn't fill it. She didn't have the power. She didn't know how to help Basilpaw, but give him the roost loving, and nurturing Tom in the clan. That happened to be Fennelfrost. He'd take care of Basilpaw, help him through his grief. At least she hoped. Basilpaw was such a fine, young apprentice. He couldn't wish anything upon him. That's be much to cruel. The thoughts of Basilpaw withering away.. It flooded her mind at night and made her shudder, then race to the apprentice den to make sure Basilpaw was sleeping, and surely enough, there he was sleeping soundly curled into various denmates. This happened every night, every night shed race to the den to check on Basilpaw. She was so worried she couldn't help it!
Ferndapple sighed, trying to calm herself down. breath in... Breath out... she thought to herself. She hadn't spoke at all, and her encounter to Shira the other night at the river, didnt help that she had limited her strength, she didnt have the time to deal with the measly loner. She was a nuisance, a disturbance to her clans life. Also she was the daughter of a traitor, leaving the life of the clans, to become a loner and fight for the right to survive. What a crazy that was. The life of a loner, never knowing that you'll be attacked in your sleep. Vicious lifestyle. Ferndapple thought no more of it and layed her head down, trying to sleep before her long trip to Starclan.
She awoke, but not in her nest. The area around her smelled sickly sweet of honey, and catmint. Far in the distance she heard the bubbling sounds of the river flowing. Ferndapples pale body layed their, shock less. Where was she? Only a moment ago he was in Shadestars old den, sleeping soundly with a million thoughts racing through her mind. But now she was in some type of paradise. Ferndapple slowly started to get to her paws. Her nose twitched as she smelt the area around her, so many scents flooded her, she was drowning in a pit of prey. All around her things burst with life. Kits played together in a corner, elders splashed in the river, apprentices tumbled over and over in a play fight. Squeals of laughter could be heard everywhere.
Where was she? Surely this isn't her nest, her beautiful nest in the Stoney walls of Riverclan, with her clan sleeping soundly in their respectful dens. This was another world. Ferndapple felt revived, full of life. Much better than she had the past couple of days. Shadestars passing hit her hard, and with her mother still in a turnover with Ferndapple, she hadn't the best moon. Slowly and carefully, paw step over paw step, Ferndapple stepped up to her paws, and moved through the unknown area. Curiosity filled each soundless step as she weaved through tall grasses. Her bright green eyes blending into the thin ferns. What was this place? Why was it so plentiful? Surely it wasn't her forest. Maybe she was dreaming. That had to be it. But then she heard a voice call, and she flipped around, eyes wide searching for the curious voice that had beckoned her.
Ferndapple! Sissy! Over here!
Her thoughts exploded, could it be? No... No at wasn't what it was. He died. He was long gone because of her selfish mistakes. Ferndapple was sure that he died. She was the one who found his body! Decapitated, and the blood drained from him, he laid there like a limp figure on the pebbles, the river stained red, and a sly cut formed into one of his legs. She cried for weeks, and that was when her mother abandoned her, tears began to stream down Ferndapples face as she shook, and raced towards where her brother was calling. Bearkit! I'm coming budda! Stay there! Keep calling to me!
Whiskers twitched as she collapsed and listened for her brother. The cries stopped, and a loud, frightful, ear-blistering screech wailed throughout the trees. Her eyes popped and she screamed, NO! BEARKIT!!! NOOOO!! Sobs erupted through her, she had lost her brother.. Again. It was her fault.. Again. Ferndapple seeped by herself, and heard the babbling brook, her weak head lifted, and she was in the same shape she was in before. Her pale green eyes moved towards it, should she go look? Did she want to see her decapitated brother again, with the blood, and life drained from him, laying there motionless, no spirit left. She heaved herself to her paws, and slowly trudged to the river, and no sooner did she get up, she was back down again, because before her, was her brother, dead, and decapitated.
She screamed, and crawled to her brothers side. This isn't what she wanted, she had told her brother to stay in the den. She had told him! But yet.. He had left, insisting that he had to see where mummy went. Ferndapple tried to tell him... But it was her fault that she didn't go after him. Her fault he was lying at her paws dead. Her fault that her mother disowned her. All her fault... Many times she thought that if she offed herself, the clan would be at peace. They could live without her. Shadestar would've found a new deputy. They would've been happy without her. If only..
Suddenly it all went black, and a new scene appeared, and her brother was before her. Healed, the same way she left him in the nursery, his clean, brown pelt layed flat, and he was chasing a butterfly, glittering stars littered his body, and many other of her ancestors stood before him, and her apprentice, Brookpaw, was there. Ferndapple stared in shock, brookpaw.....? Brookpaw! her mew filled the air as she nuzzled her apprentice. But where was her love? Where was Nightface? She turned her head and looked, and there it was, the pitch black Tom, with dark brown eyes that made it seem black. Tears slowly fell down her face as she slowly walked towards him, then it turned into a run, as she tackled him, licking his face. But then, there was more important matters, Bearkit. She slowly moved toward him and fell to her paws. There he was, alive and well. With Starclan. He earned his rank with the ancestors. He found his place, and he was with Brookpaw and Nightface.
Bearkit I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I ever let you go find mom. I'm so sorry I let you die. I'm so sorry you were tortured. I so sorry I was t paying attention, I'm so sorry I was to selfish to see you wandered out of camp. it all poured from her, what she has wanting to say for so long had finally spilled. Ears bubbled in her eyes and she choked on them, her head felt heavy as it dropped to her paws. Her tearfilled green eyes turned back up to her younger brother. He stared at her, looked at her face then, ever so slowly a giggled erupted from his lips, and then he fell on the floor laughing. Why was he laughing? She just apologized! Brookpaw and Nightface began to laugh to, and she got up and stared at them in shock. Why were they laughing at her? Sissy. I never blamed you for my uhm... Accident. It was my fault silly! I should've listened to you! and another came from him. Ferndapple smiled and cuffed him over the ear. thank you for forgiving me. Bearkit settled down and got a serious look on his face. Ferndapple. All of Starclan know why you are here. Your here to find out the new leader for our clan? In replacement of Shadestar? Ferndapple nodded, and looked around at the cats staring at her. Starclan has chosen Robinthroat to lead. Now go! You mustn't stay any longer.
Ferndapple tried to protest, but all to soon, she was shocked awake in her stone wall, with Willowkit in front of her, wanting to play a game.
