She loves to play like a kit, and her inclination towards leaf-hunting and similar entertainments typically indulged in only by the very young shows no signs of slowing down or even causing her shame as she gets older. Her favorite such game is "pretend," which often gets her mistaken for delusional. She isn't; she just doesn't understand that other cats don't know that she's pretending. Maplepaw really has a hard time understanding other cats. She is extremely innocent, even naive, and sincerely believes the best of every cat she meets. Malice? As far as Maplepaw is concerned, it simply doesn't exist, and so if there is any other explanation for a cat's behavior, she will believe that first--and her only backup plan is to be entirely poleaxed. She is easily hurt because of it, and very lucky to have not met true evil yet in her life, because she cannot even imagine that it exists. In many ways, this apprentice is truly her father's daughter: inventive, curious, and fairly reckless. She loves to learn, even though it always seems to take her a while to understand things. What she doesn't understand, she tries to make sense of--however many times it takes until she can comprehend it. If she thinks of a different way to do something she will try it, no matter how strange it may seem to other cats. Usually her father will understand what she is doing, and sometimes her siblings will as well, but in many cases they will be the only ones who can make any sense of her behavior. To a huge extent, Maplepaw is driven by an internal nature that was formed very early and never changes. She is a very consistent cat, and most of her life is inward. Outward pressures do very little to influence her, which is why she has trouble learning about many things and particularly about what others are like. This also allows her to keep a constant sense of wonder about everything she sees.[/classy] [classy=infotop]history[/classy][classy=infobottom]There were three kits in Ambercloud's first litter, and Maplekit was the first of them to be born. Together with her littermates, Maplekit spent the first moons after opening her eyes "terrorizing" her Clanmates with rambunctious, mischievous curiosity. Everything that they encountered, they investigated; everything that they investigated turned into a big mess. Every cat was upset with them, particularly their mother, almost all the time. The only exception was their father, whom they all took after in personality; he thought they were adorable and let them know early on that he expected great things from them. The kits' reign of terror ended, or at least became a little bit less annoying, after about three moons, when Maplepaw inspired her siblings to stop behaving in such a way. Not that she had intended to do that. What she had intended was to sneak out of camp, and she almost succeeded. Unfortunately for her, she hadn't been expecting to get caught in a thornbush right at the edge. Fortunately, since she was right outside the camp, every cat heard her and she was quickly rescued. The experience frightened Maplepaw a little but did not change her personality, but it persuaded her more-traumatized and more-impressionable siblings to make some changes in how they acted. From then on, Rowankit and Cedarkit pressured their sister to play in less-destructive ways, and she went along with their games because exploring is less interesting when you can't share what you find. Maplepaw was apprenticed on time, and since then has been trying her best to have a normal apprenticeship. As normal as any cat so strange as herself can, that is.[/classy] |
