[style= margin-right:180px; margin-left: 0px;margin-bottom:0px; text-align:justify; height:257px; overflow:auto;padding-right:10px; color:black;] for any shadowclan cat, the shadows of the forest any night were comforting. they almost could have been friends, if not for the inability to chat like old friends. the shadows hid them even during the day time and allowed cats to sneak from point a to point b without being found. it often caused to belief that by nature shadowclan cats were shadowy characters without hearts that couldn't be trusted. that horrid belief couldn't have been more wrong, thought mousepaw as she made her way back to camp. she could almost hear the trilling laugh of her parents that she had left behind. they had needed privacy and she had long wished that they would become mates. not that it mattered to her if they did or didn't, goldencloud would always be her mom, even if it wasn't by birthright or blood. it almost seemed silly or her to base her relationships off blood. she was glad that she had talked to them she was beginning to miss the closeness to them that had always been so strong and apparent. ever since loudpaw, she hadn't been the same. even more recently, she had found lynxfoot. not found in the physical sense of course but in the emotion sense. they always seemed to flow well together and mousepaw truly believed that she lved him and the she had found the tom she thought loudpaw had been. so overall, she felt as though her life was going good. she surely had nothing to complain about in her life at the moment.
the only problems with being lost and thought and in a shadowy forest, like mousepaw was at the present time, is its a dangerous place. one can barely see in front of their nose sometimes. the danger for mousepaw cam in the form of a tawny red fox whose eyes glowed a yellowy color. the foxes skin clung to its skeleton, looking as though it hadn't eaten in ages. this creature had set its sights upon mousepaw. the young black cat was small, but a feast for the starving fox. her size brought forth another realization. a smaller cat surely couldn't put up much of a fight against him, hungry or not, right? with this in mind, the boney creature began to follow the young black cat, listening as the creature appeared to laugh and giggle at something going on in her mind. the dog fox, for it was clearly a male resisted the urge to smirk at the young cat and laugh as only a fix can. she was blind to the danger that faced it at that very moment, yet she smiled and giggled like her world wouldn't be coming to a drastic end.the fox was growing impatient and the speed of his flicking tail increased as his patience decreased. he ran through the shadows, checking to make sure the young black cat had no companions in the inky night. when he was sure she didn't, he rushed out and head butted her side.
poor mousepaw hadn't been paying any attention to her surroundings, though she scolded herself for it later, and the foxs attack caught her completely by surprise. she fell to the side, skidding into a nearby tree and stopping. the fear of her current situation paralyzed her and she just stood and watched as the fox came up to her, his eyes gleaming viciously. the bloodlust in his eyes was impossible to disguise and it was enough to save her from the bite to her neck that would have killed her if she hadn't wriggled out of the way in time. the fox tried again, his yellowing teeth driving for her belly this time. thankfully, mousepaw was ready. she ran her claws down the side of the foxes face, surely blinding him in his left eye. as natural, the tawny creature was enraged by the loss of sight in his eye. he reacted quickly, doing something that would leave mousepaw scarred for life. he dug his filthy claws into one of her own eyes. when he retracted his paw, she was sure her eye would come with it. she hadn't the nerve to cry out for help, her mind was filled of thoughts of forever being blind in her right eye. however, mousepaws wits had not left her and she lunged forward, digging her teeth into his throat.an eye for an eye and a throat for a throat. mousepaw thought gravely. the dog fox had realized that this fight was not going to go well for him and he began to struggle.
the sheer enormity of her injury was beginning to affect her, her head growing woozy. she let the fox go. the tawny creature stared and her and barked what was probably a stream of curses at her and was gone. mousepaw hadn't the energy to do anything but lay there, stunned. she could feel her right eye seeping blood, but it felt more like tears streaming down her face. she blinked her eyes twice, wondering how much less she could see. the entire right side of her vision was black, black where there had once been colors and moonbeams. she wanted to cry, she wanted to burst into tears. more than anything, she wanted the encounter to have been a nightmare. she wanted to blink open her eyes and be able to see everything. she wanted to wake up and feel heavypaw beside her. mousepaw knew that was impossible. there was no way he could have been in the realm of dreams. nothing about that logic made sense. mousepaw curled onto her belly, lifted her head and let out a high pitched keening wail that anyone could hear in the silent night. how could this happen to her, after everything that was finally going right? how was this fair? she would take loudpaw leaving her again if she could just have her vision back. she looked at they stars and one question formed on her lips, a simple question in theory but no one could challenge the emotions behind it. why?
