Even though she knows she is unusually small for a cat and that her father is dead, Rainkit still likes to think of herself as a ‘fierce warrior’ or a ‘noble leader’. And as a young kit let loose in the camp (and out of the camp...), there are several opportunities for her to show off, to prove to her Clan that she is more than just a small kit. In fact, Rainkit could be considered arrogant. She would boast whenever she could and always make a firm excuse instead of an apology. Yet, she is not blindly arrogant, or stupid. Whenever she finds herself in trouble, Rainkit would know if she bears the fault. Inside, guilt would prick her body, but she would never be courageous enough to admit it or confess her regret to anybody except to the cats she loves. [/classy] [classy=infotop]history[/classy][classy=infobottom]Before Rainkit was born, her father, Talonstrike died of a heart attack and left Morningsnow, who was already pregnant with kits left to mother Rainkit and her siblings alone. Rainkit is aware of this, but it does not shake her with grief, as she never knew him. There are some days when Morningsnow seems to silently mourn for Talonstrike, but Rainkit simply never understood sadness or death... yet. Rainkit did not catch on to the family’s tradition of being clean and polite. She usually passed Morningsnow’s Manners Assessment Test when she would grudgingly mutter, “Sorry,” or wash after her mother would wake up suddenly with dirt all over her pelt. [/classy] |

The tightly woven reeds tangled and tied themselves around the willow branches that sheltered the nursery creating a dry den. Inside, Rainkiy slept soundly beside Morningsnow’s warm belly and her siblings. From the ceiling above, a droplet of water formed, stretched, broke away and fell. Rainkit felt a constant poking at her side. Its touch was cold and wet, but did nothing but poke her. Mewling with annoyance, Rainkit shivered and pressed closer to her mother’s milk-warm belly. But it was still there and the poking wouldn’t go away. Opening her amber eyes, Rainkit woke and whirled around her. Next to her, Ravenkit shifted in his sleep, and Morningsnow’s chest rose and fell, rose and fell. Behind Morningsnow, a curtain of water dripped down, shading the nursery entrance. But the poking was still poking. Rhythmically tapping Rainkit’s back, poking. She whirled around again and faced the sedge wall. Perplexed, she mewed quietly, “Where are you?” and fear began to creep into Rainkit’s mind. She was about to wake Morningsnow up, but she looked up, and saw drops of water dropping, dropping, dropping from the ceiling, poking, poking, poking. Oh. She moved so the drops of water started to poke her head. That’s where the poking is coming from! It’s just water. Rainkit’s pelt bristled hot with embarrassment, but she realized nobody was watching her. I wonder what the water is doing on the ceiling. And then it occurred to her; she remembered cats coming to reinforce the weaving of reeds, talking about how the River might come and flood the nursery with too much water. The River must be flooding the nursery! Rainkit thought and ran to the entrance, seeing a curtain of water dripping down. Oh no! The River is coming faster than I thought! So she proceeded to tackle her mother, but Morningsnow was so big and she was so tiny that she didn’t budge. So she mewed at the top of her kitten-ly voice, “Morningsnow, Morningsnow! The River’s coming! I said," Rainkit paused for breath, "The River’s coming!” The single drop of water coming from the ceiling innocently continued to fall rhythmically onto the floor. Drip. Drop. Drip. Drop. “Come on! The Flooding is coming to hurt us in any second now!” Rainkit imagined herself being praised by Shadestar in front of everybody for saving RiverClan from the River. Then, Morningsnow’s huge body started to come to life... [/classy] |
