For most of her life she's been surrounded by toms, doted on by her father and raised with certain expectations. These expectations included being able to keep calm in the face of danger, to see clearly in times of panic and to never let her enemies see her quake even when she's shaken to the core. At all times, Hawkeye is in firm control of herself, schooling her features in to polite impassivity. She speaks very crisply, leaving no room for argument and clearly depicting a will of steel. Hawkeye will not break for any tom and many toms in the clan that don't know her are very intimidated by her. She is a lioness among housecats, proud and sure of herself but when you get to know her a bit more you'll find she's quite subservient. Leadership has never been her goal but service is easy. Passing along and enforcing the law laid down by another is nearly second nature for Hawkeye, particularly when it is the word of Flameheart and his ragtag group of warriors. Among this strange almost mini-clan within ThunderClan, Hawkeye takes the place of a deputy. The most common place to find Hawkeye is sitting just behind Flameheart's right shoulder, the place of the deputy. The toms that come to trust and follow Flameheart defer to Hawkeye in times of trouble or when unpleasant news is to be passed along. Hawkeye handles their antics with a cool, sharp gaze and tries to ignore the fact that many are unnerved by her unusually pale gaze. That gaze, however, gives Hawkeye a lot of power. There's nothing quite like her glare, making even Flameheart shake in his fur when he knows he's done something particularly foolhardy. On a good day, Hawkeye in general keeps to herself and goes about her duties with brisk efficiency, handling each crisis as it arises, giving Flameheart a passing kick in the tail to get him moving and snapping younger warriors into action when she finds them loitering. Her apprentices are almost always terrified of her when they come under Hawkeye's sharp gaze, shrinking back from her pale gaze and sharp orders. It's hard for them to see that her sharpness is most often for their benefit because one day they won't be hers to protect, they'll go out into a battlefield and have to rely on what she taught them to help them survive. Because Hawkeye is such a tomboy, as tough and unmovable as any stubborn tom, many forget that she is still a she-cat. Perhaps the only one that remembers is Flameheart. He'll give a passing compliment about her pretty eyes or he'll curl up beside her and talk to her at night when everyone else is too intimidated to approach. He'll brave her sharp tongue and blustering rage, soothing it away with simple touch and soft promises to never again do whatever stupid thing he did.[/classy] [classy=infotop]history[/classy][classy=infobottom]Initially, Hawkkit was born the daughter of Cougartail and Lilyfur. Unfortunately, Lilyfur didn't survive the birthing which left Cougartail with no idea how to raise his only daughter. Not sure what to do, Cougartail received the help of a queen named Starlingflight, an experienced queen whom had devoted her life to raising kits. Starlingflight took in Hawkkit but insisted Cougartail remain active in his daughter's life. Cougartail did just that, instilling in his daughter from an early age the idea that she should never cry, should never be weak. Not long after being taken in by Starlingflight, Hawkkit was joined by a tiny little newborn named Flamekit, orphaned like she had been and taken in by Starlingflight. From day one Cougartail told Hawkkit that it was her job to take care of Flamekit, as his 'older sister'. Hawkkit did just that. Flamekit had an ego as big as the nursery and quite the attitude but the more time she spent with him and the other kits he drew in, Hawkkit began to see the clan through his eyes and found herself drawn in by not so much his ambition as his vision for what ThunderClan could be. When she left the nursery, Hawkpaw was handed into the care of Talonswipe, a friend of her father's that had quite similar ideals to Cougartail. He enforced the militaristic lifestyle Hawkpaw had been taught in the nursery, having her rise early and teaching her to perform her tasks in the most efficient manner possible. For two moons, Hawkpaw actually was away from Flamepaw, falling into step with the other apprentices until the day when Flamekit became Flamepaw. As soon as he was, she slid right back into his shadow as if she'd never been gone. She nudged him in the right direction here and there, sank her claws into a few of his ill-wishers and established herself quite firmly as his second. Talonswipe and Cougartail were both thoroughly amused by the apprentices and actually had a running bet between one another on when Flamepaw would become a leader and Hawkpaw would be his deputy. Unfortunately, Talonswipe never got to live to see the end of that bet. While on a patrol late in her apprenticeship, Hawkpaw and her mentor were ambushed by rogues. Talonswipe died from his injuries but Hawkpaw came out of the attack with her ears scarred and a few scars littering her shoulders. For her bravery and skill, Hawkpaw was given her warrior name of Hawkeye, a tribute to her unusually pale eyes and her extremely keen eyesight. Hawkeye, however, only remembers the first time she was called that name. It hadn't been when the clan chanted it after her ceremony, oh no. She remembers when Flamekit used to call her Hawkeye, deputy to Flamestar, back when they'd been kits and everyone had been too unnerved by her eyes to meet her gaze. Everyone but him. [/classy] |
