But being charming is very different from being flirtatious. The distinction must be made. He has well groomed manners and a healthy amount of respect for his superiors. He is well-spoken, but also has a wry edge to his smile. With females, he often appears as that sort of "dark knight". He isn't overly flirtatious or obvious or go chasing after them. He simply charms, unintentionally on most occasions. Yet this charm is often mistaken for flirting, and can lead to awkward conversations and temporarily broken hearts. You see, Heron has very little interest in taking a mate. He already had one and the experience wasn't all that stellar. He sees himself as somewhat "older beyond his years". He liked to think of himself as wise, and indeed on occasion he truly is. Though he is only 26 moons old, he enjoys spending time with the elders, talking over pasts long gone. He has a very cunning edge to him and should his character become even slightly more towards the "evil" side, his actions could turn manipulative. But he is not an evil or a bad cat. Cunning is often associated with pure evil, as is ambition. While Heron is both cunning and ambitious, he doesn't have that edge to him which might prompt violence or other undesirable actions. You see, while Heron is charming and pleasant and a well-established warrior, he has a bit of an inferiority complex. After his mate left him, he fell into such a state that his clan leader was further forced to assign his apprentice a new mentor. These things were crushing blows to Heron's self-esteem. He doesn't feel the constant need to prove himself, or any such thing. It's more that he feels a constant reminder of all that he didn't achieve. [/classy] [classy=infotop]history[/classy][classy=infobottom]Heronflight was born Heronkit, one of three sons born to Kestrelgaze and Boulderfoot. Heronkit had no traumatic childhood, no early death of the parents or siblings he loved. He was of his parents' first litter, and as such they were consumed with adoration and excitement at the new prospect of parenting. His mother had a strange obsession with birds, and insisted that all of her children be named for birds - as she was. Her mother before her had had the same love of flight and creatures of the sky. Thus the kittens were dubbed Heronkit, Thrushkit and Kitekit. Kestrelgaze had almost named one of them Starling, but Boulderfoot dissuaded her at the last moment - insisting that Starling was a female sort of bird, and promised it would be the name of their first-born daughter next time. Kestrelgaze acquiesced, and her three little birdies were born. Heronkit was a rambunctious kitten, along with his two brothers. They caused untold mischief. As punishment one afternoon, for sneaking into the Apprentice Den, Boulderfoot brought his kittens to the Elder's Den. He sat them down with a stern stare, and left them there with strict instructions that they were to keep the elders company. While Heronkit's two brothers moaned and groaned, Heronkit found he actually quite enjoyed the experience. He was enthralled by all the stories they had to tell. He found himself returning again and again, punishment or no. Heronkit grew to Heronpaw alongside his brothers. He was mentored by an older she-cat with everlasting patience. Heronpaw became Heronflight - in a warrior ceremony alongside his two brothers. Their mother was so proud. She had had her second litter, and indeed had given birth to a little she-cat she named Starlingkit. But there was nothing that could make her prouder than seeing her sons become warriors. Heronflight began his time as a warrior. He and his brothers were inseparable - on patrols, hunting, everything. They were often simply referred to as "The Trio". Heronflight had been a warrior for only a short time when an apprentice, a young she-cat named Meadowpaw, was made a warrior. Heronflight had never paid much attention to the apprentices, seeing as he didn't have one himself. But as Meadowpaw stepped forward and became Meadowlark, that all changed. He found himself spending every waking moment with her. She was perfect in his eyes. He found any excuse to include her on patrols with his brothers, using the opportunity to show-off whenever he could. And she would sit and smile, laugh at his antics. His brothers knew instantly that he loved her, and in some ways she knew too. The pair, though young, became a mated pair. Unbeknownst to Heronflight, his brother Thrushwing, had also set his eyes on Meadowlark. But he kept quiet, lingering in the background. Thrushwing had always been the quiet brooding brother. And though Heronflight was blinded by his love for Meadowlark, Meadowlark was not blind to Thrushwing's gaze. Meadowlark found herself pulled to quiet Thrushwing, but couldn't bring herself to tell Heronflight. Heronflight had just been assigned his first apprentice, an eager young tom. He and Meadowlark were even considering having kittens. He woke one morning to find Meadowlark and Thrushwing's nests empty. He frowned and stood, only to find his other brother - Kitecry, waiting for him. Kitecry wouldn't look him in the eye as he spoke. He told Heronflight that Thrushwing and Meadowlark had run off. They hadn't wanted to be in camp when Kitecry told Heronflight the truth - Meadowlark didn't love him. Heronflight simply walked away. The truth didn't register until Thrushwing and Meadowlark slunk back into camp, so close their pelts brushed as they whispered together. Heronflight didn't think. He attacked his brother. The two fought until forced apart, the battle where Heronflight got his notch. Heronflight lost his apprentice, and his brother. Heronflight has since moved on, though never reconciled with either Thrushwing or Meadowlark. He refuses largely to acknowledge them unless absolutely necessary. He has since trained another apprentice as well. [/classy] |
