Brindlestream Brindlestream found herself enjoying her day out, still unused to being about from Gingerkit... Gingerpaw. Her kit was an apprentice now, with a mentor and friends- even if she still refused to speak. Brindlestream could have sworn her kit could speak, she was almost certain of it, the she-cat seemed to be to shy though. Something was holding her back. Not the Brindlestream thought she would be able to do anything about it. The queen was still learning how to handle her own faults, there wasn't any way she would try to handle her daughters. Not that she could make the kit speak, she would just have to deal with it until Gingerpaw over came whatever was holding her back.
The tortoiseshell queen hadn't been paying much attention to where she was going until she tripped over a stick. Her head pulled up and she found herself looking out upon Fourtree. The summer had been a pretty decent one in Brindlestream's mind, just hot enough to not be spring or fall, but not so hot that not one wanted to get up and do anything- or, for the most part anyway. Plus, she had the trees to take most the bite out of the heat. It was something she was very thankful towards.
Testing the air, Brindlestream's tail twitched impatiently. She knew there were birds and a few mice running about, but she wanted something bigger. A vole or mole or something. Sure, a few birds would be great, but a few birds and a vole? That'd be perfect.
She turned and started towards a large oak tree, some of it's roots had been uncovered with moons of rain and animals digging around. Telling her that animals would likely be hiding around it. The dark green color around the base told her she'd found a good patch of moss, she'd have to remember to come back here when she helped clean out the nursery... Or the warriors den. Whichever needed it first.
Her eyes narrowed as she picked up a soft hint of mole carried on the wind. Looking up, she let her tail drop and slowly started following the scent. It didn't take her long to find the strongest point, and soon it's black pelt came into view. She didn't know what it was doing, but she silently thanked Starclan that it hadn't noticed her. She had lost a little of her balance when pregnant and wasn't as light on her feet as she was used too being. She knew the only way to get back in shape was to work on it, but she hadn't really been out of camp much lately, helping around with whatever she could. Trying to keep her mind off Gingerpaw and her father.
Twitching her whiskers, Brindlestream slipped closer to the mole, careful of her footing and minding herself more than usual. This would surely make her feel better about not helping out more as of late. The mole moved and Brindlestream stopped, lowering herself and letting the prey close the space between them. Her amber eyes were two huge, black discs. Before she jumped, she made sure everything was still in her favor. Her mentor's voice running through her head like the wind. 'You always forget to mind her hind legs. You'll unbalance yourself and if you don't hurt yourself, you'll lose the prey. Focus!" Taking the leap, Brindlestream landed on the mole and killed it swiftly.
Happy with herself, she headed back to the oak tree and covered the mole to come back for. This was going to be a good hunt.

it was a shame- the beginning of his day had been nice. far from perfect, but fairly enjoyable. at least he'd gotten over the road without incident (wait, didn't the clan cats call it a thunderpath? strange- he didn't think the name suited it).
and that was how he ended up at the edge of what the clan cats called fourtrees, those ever-observant amber eyes trailing over the mostly empty space (empty was the quickest and most blunt observation he could express). this was where the four clans gathered every full moon on a truce and interacted, told stories, and groomed each other.. or something silly like that. really, it was one of the oddest things the recorder had seen and heard of.
sure, he'd seen countless and countless wars and battles between the feline species. all sorts of them, really- some more brutal and heart-wrenching than the others (sometimes he was glad he was able- and had to distance himself in the worst situations). but never had he seen a bunch of cats, all in different territories come together one night and fight the next. it was just a strange concept. these clan cats were kind of mouse-brained, weren't they?
oh- speak of the devil. there was a clan cat in the area, not too far away from him really. she seemed to have just caught some prey and was burying it- he assumed to come back for it later (he would have just eaten it then and there but maybe that was how the clan cats did it..).
plastering on the biggest and friendliest smile lavi could upon his face, he lifted his tail high- it holding the appearance of a large feather as he practically pranced out of the brush (okay, he was limping a tad from the shadowclan-run-in earlier but he tried to seem as well-off as possible). he waited for her to finish burying the prey she had caught, before speaking finally.
"that was an awfully nice catch! you clan cats sure are good at what'cha do!" the red-furred tom cat meowed- voice expressive and sounding fairly excited, beaming from ear to fluffy ear. he stood, looking far from threatening. he hoped this cat didn't take his presence as a chance to go after him. this was neutral territory, right? there was no need for any hostility (not that he would provide any).

Brindlestream A new scent on the wind cause Brindlestream's neck fur to bristle, she knew it was a tomcat, but the odd mix of Shadowclan and loner told her he was most likely trouble. For a moment she began planning her attack to run him off, but then remembered that she was at Fourtrees, a place of peace- or, at least it was supposed to me. And since none of the Clan's could claim the grounds, she saw no point in fighting over it. Though if her mentor could read her thoughts he would claw her ear, and then some, off.
Turning, she sized the tom up, not surprised at his size. His red coat reminded her of her father, and she almost let her guard down a little. Catching herself, she glared at the tom and arched her back. Letting him know that even if she didn't fight with him, she wasn't going to let him step paw into Thunderclan territory.
It was then that she remembered he had spoken, and as his voice ran through her head again, she tried to pick up on the tone and whatever hidden message could have been laced through the simple words. He had given away that he was not a clan cat, and most likely hadn't been in the area long since he seemed to have meant to sound friendly and impressed by her skill. By all clan cats skill. Of course they were good hunters, they had to be. Any self respecting cat would know how to hunt! Otherwise they'd be no better than a kitty-pet.
Which made her wonder if maybe he had, at one point, been one himself. Just looking at him told Brindlestream that he wasn't, at the moment anyway. If he kept treading on to Clan grounds he would most likely end up either dead or better off with two-legs.
Her eyes wondered over his pelt, acknowledging his limp with an ear twitch. So that's why he smelled of Shadowclan, he had been attacked there.
"What are you? Mousedbrained?" She realized too late that she had spoken her mind aloud. Trying to cover her slip up, she cleared her throat and lashed her tail. What business do you have so near Thunderclan's border?" She asked, figuring it she wasn't going to fight him, she might as well have something to tell the leader later, Nettlestar would not be pleased to hear she simply let a loner walk on and then off the Clan's rightful terriory without at least finding out his reasons. Though she didn't really see a point in telling Nettlestar-unless the tom gave her a reason.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag2/recklessisawreck/lavi02_zps6d82ffe9.png][scrolly:h(170),w(450),sy] watching the clan cat arching her back and glaring at him only brought amusement to lavi- those amber eyes of his twinkling with it. he didn't show it much outwardly, not wanting to offend her. he wasn't here to fight with her, nor demean her. she was a clan cat- she was probably one hell of a fighter. he, himself could fight, but that didn't mean he enjoyed putting his moves to use against cats who were only doing what they were supposed to do.
though- he was sure he would allow himself to fight back a little in this case if this silly she-cat decided to initiate something further than speaking. after all, they were on neutral territory and there was no reason for the beautiful little kitty to get so riled up, right right right?
throughout the whole exchange- of looks per se- the she-cat was taking an awful long time to respond to him, wasn't she? at least it sure felt that way- the male was watching her with curious amber eyes, no hint of malice to be found in his expression or stance. he held that smile he'd worn when first speaking to her, the look insistent on the fact, i mean no harm. and really- he didn't.
after the slight bout of silence, the clan cat finally spoke, brightening up lavi's eyes excitedly. for a while he was worried she was going to ignore him or spout some mouse-brained nonsense. but in fact, she asked if he was as such? um, no? honestly, he was a tad confused- not quite used to others making the same sorts of deductions he was used to making- but then again, he was used to hanging out with loners, rogues, and even kittypets at times. he didn't really think of the obvious hints- such as him smelling like shadowclan and the fact he had a limp. so, just as the other had intended, he associated the first question the prelude to the second.
"well, i was jus' doin' my rounds. 'm an 'observer,' y'see? i'm a neutral party." he felt there was no need to hide that fact. "uh, i have nothing against the clans- if that's what you're assuming. i'm just learning about them. what they do, what they're about, clan life..." the red-furred feline paused in the middle of listing off, eyes opening a tad wider when he realized what he'd said. "that sounded bad. well- everything i learn stays here." he dipped his head forward, to show that he meant the knowledge remained in his own head. "and any other recorders that come after me. we just mentally record history so that it's not lost. not forgotten."
oh no, he's babbling. he needs to stop before he says anymore unnecessary comments.
"that's pretty easy to understand, right right right?"
the seemingly shocked expression he held moments ago while accidentally divulging too much information for his tastes was wiped from his face, looking just as pleasant as before. really- it was hard to tell- not only outwardly, but personally, whether the excitement he seemed to hold was fake- just something brought on by this new alias- or genuine. either way, he honestly held no ill-will towards the other feline, eagerly awaiting her response (which was quite obvious in the way his ears remained perked ahead of him) as he reclined on his haunches, taking a seat to express his willingness to interact in a way without violence or aggression.

Brindlestream Listening to him speak was kind of hard for Brindlestream, so used to the way the clan cats spoke. She had to repeat him in her head to be sure she understood it all. It wasn't that it was really hard to make out, it was just different, and oddly enough, she kind of liked it. What was it about this outsider that she so interesting all the sudden? He looked much different from clan cats, with his thick dusty red pelt and small frame, most would probably mistake him for either a thunder or a windclan cat, but he had an outsider look about him. Something foreign, and yet still managed to remind her of her father.
Watching him closely, she found herself wanting to talk with him. She didn't really have anything better to do, and since the forest was full of life, even the worst hunter would be able to catch something, she no longer felt to need to rush through her hunt. She sat down and curled her tail neatly over her paws, her eyes watching his every movement. She realized that he had been babbling, and held back a purr. Tomcats babbling was amusing too her. Made her feel better when she babbled.
Noting his body language, she could tell he hadn't meant to say as much as he had, but couldn't figure out why. Then again, if she were sent to get information from somepaw, she wouldn't want to give to much away either. For fear of being found out or whatever.
"Wait..." She tilted her head to one side, narrowing her eyes as she tried to proccess what he was saying. "So, you go from place to place, learning about different cats way's of life, to 'record' it, and yet whatever you learn stays 'here', or with you..? How will anyone remember it then?" Her eyes sparked with wonder, half surprised at how much she wanted to learn from this cat. He would know so much about almost anything if he was, in fact, the 'recorder' he claimed.
But what if he wasn't? What if he was just a loner who was trying to get cozy in Thunderclan? In hopes to learn things he could take to another clan to try and cozy up to them? Hadn't the loners tried to take over the clans before? If not, what would stop them now?
"Sure, it's kind of easy to understand, but on the other paw, it's really not. She gave her shoulder fur a few swift licks, wondering what her clan mates would think of her talking to a loner like this. They would surely distrust her for it. Or, some of them would. Others wouldn't care left or right, so long as she didn't tell him something that he would later use against them. He was a harmless loner on his own, but if he had buddies, then he might very well be trouble. And he had mentioned other 'recorders,' what if that was just what they were calling themselves?

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag2/recklessisawreck/lavi02_zps6d82ffe9.png][scrolly:h(170),w(450),sy] lavi's ears were practically tingling with the desire to hear about the clan this she-cat resided in while he awaited for her to speak. he wasn't sure whether the other feline would answer his questions, but he was hopeful that if he befriended her, she would tell him something, right right right? not that he was only was talking to her because of that reason. well, that is what is supposed to be the only reason for his interaction with any animal- for the sake of knowledge and information gathering- that was his duty as a recorder. but really, lavi didn't like the way that sounded.
he really needed to stop letting this alias get to him. the one before this- deak- was so much more reserved. stoic. he didn't get attached. things were easier that way. but it was hard not to grow fond of such expressive felines such as the clan cats.
when those amber eyes of his first noticed the narrowing of the other feline's eyes, he felt taken aback, feeling a little cautious. was she angry with what he said? but as she spoke, he realized she was just trying to understand what he meant. he nodded in confirmation as she summarized what he had told her, letting her know she was correct, but when the question came up, he was fully prepared to answer.
"well, there's more than one recorder! i mean.. we're all over. not just by the clans. i'm actually only an apprentice," he admitted, not sounding sheepish at all that he was still an apprentice at this age. "m' mentor is off on his own mission, that's why he's not here. but, ah, there's actually a group o' recorders. we pass our knowledge on to those under us. so nothing is forgotten." he looked a little more solemn, pausing, before speaking again- so quickly that it almost was as if he hadn't even paused.
"so when panda dies, i'll take on an apprentice an' pass the knowledge on then. so i guess it doesn't.. uh, stay in m' head. but we don't share it with unnecessary cats or anythin' like that." he explained, not at all feeling tuckered out by his long-winded explanation. he was used to speaking for long periods of time- he had to do so when he was relaying information to panda.
lavi could see the spark of curiosity in the other cat's eyes, and he was quite surprised by that fact. after all, he was always the one who wanted to learn more, he never really had other cats having any desire to learn about him. it was silly, quite frankly. so on one paw, it was actually quite flattering. that thought sparked a thought in his mind- ears perking up further, excitedly almost.
"oh!" he exclaimed. "i never caught your name? 'm lavi." he didn't do much, except for shuffle his paws a little. he seemed to be quite focused on the other, not wanting to distract himself at all- but that was mostly because of the recorder he was.

Brindlestream "My name is Brindlestream." Brindlestream allowed herself to purr, partly because she had been trying to make herself seem more friendly and caring. Hoping that her clan-mates would see her as who she was and not who her mother was. She pretty much figured most of them didn't really care, but those few were might have known her mother might very well hold it against her. She didn't know that they would, but she wanted to take no chances.
Realizing that she had let her mind stray off, Brindlestream forced a cheerful smile and turned her attention back to the tom. So there were other recorders, and this tom was just an apprentice. She couldn't help the look of confusion that passed over her pelt.
"So, you like... Travel from area to area, always learning, and only take on an apprentice when your mentor dies... Do you stay an apprentice yourself until he dies?" She knew she was mostly just repeating his words back to him, but it was helping her to understand it more. "And you all meet up, tell each other what you've learned, and then go your separate ways to start recording more?"
Something didn't really click, but she was sure it was just because it was new to her. She was trying to relate it to her Clan life ways, though she figured that would be hard since they knew next to nothing about Clan life. How could cats outside the clans live like them? That made as much sense as a snake eating it's own tail...
"Panda..?" She mused. "What is a Panda?" Her head was tilting again, so much information. So much to learn. She had already decided he was worth her time, and now she was deciding if she would tell him anything about the clan. She knew she still couldn't trust him, no matter how trustworthy he acted-tom cats had a way of tricking her and she wasn't about to fall for that again. She might end up having to talk to her father first... would her father understand why she was even thinking about telling a loner about the clan? Would he tell the leader and get her in trouble? Could she be banished from the clan?
Her heart quickened as her mind filled with worry. What would she do if somepaw found out and called her on it? What if somepaw saw them now? She looked around, thinking of her daughter who was most likely still in training. Thankfully Gingerpaw had been granted her grandfather as a mentor, so maybe they would still be in battle training. He always liked to over work his apprentices there. So long as Gingerpaw didn't make him all soft.
She let out a sigh, if she was caught, she would play it off. No one could really find fault with her questioning a lone tom, least of all in Fourtree, there was nothing truly wrong with it. It wasn't against any rule-at least not any of Starclans rules. And if they didn't want her talking to this tom, they would surely send a sign or something to make her stop. Wouldn't they?
Notes: She got a little carried away with herself...
