naming guidelines - Remember that naming a kit after an entire Clan is considered very rude (note that this does not apply to canon suffixes, but that SS does not allow suffixes that are the same as the names of the Clans).
- Take into account the things that the Clans hold sacred or that belong to ritual, such as the -star suffix, the phases of the moon, and the sun. These things are far too powerful or significant for a queen to name her kit after them.
- Please take the time to find images of any animal whose name may become a cat's prefix. Find out their most common colorations. Names are given for what is often seen and easily thought of, not the rare exceptions.
- Remember that kittens' eyes do not open until many days after birth, and that they are named by then. Queens name their kits for the primary color and pattern of their pelt.
- A leader will not give a cat a cruel suffix unless they are themselves cruel and deranged. Nor will they grant them a disrespectful one. A leader's duty is to name each warrior so that their skills (priority one), personality (priority two) or appearance (lowest priority) are honored.
- Cats' names may be subject to change if a disability or debilitating injury propelled them into early retirement. These names will always be compound names referencing the injury or disability that changed their status (i.e. One-eye, Threefoot, Notail, etc).
- On rare occasions, cats may be named for outstanding deeds performed, or request to honor a deceased loved one through their suffix. Please do note that these are unusual, and cats named for great deeds must obtain permission from staff for the name.
- Remember that warrior names are made up of two words combined into one. Prefixes or suffixes that are already like that (formally called compound words, like hummingbird and kingfisher), are to be avoided.
