He doesn't necessarily stand out in a crowd for being the clan's finest hunter or warrior but he does his best and works hard alongside everyone else for the good of the clan. His large stature naturally makes younger cats just assume that he's not so kind but really Ospreyfoot is quite a gentle tom with a full belly laugh and a dry, witty sense of humor. Practicality comes easy to this black and white tom and he sees things that some might think of as quite complicated in quite simple terms. Of course, he's not a genius but Ospreyfoot does dabble in strategy from time to time, using his environment to his advantage whenever he can. Hunting is Ospreyfoot's favorite pastime, simply because he adores the almost meditative state he can fall into while hunting. It's not uncommon for him to simply lose track of time and be gone all day, wading through the shadowy forests of ShadowClan seeking out prey and prowling the borders. A cat of good sense is sometimes considered an endangered species. For this reason, Ospreyfoot is often highly sought after for his input or just for someone to talk to. He lets others vent their frustrations to him and then walks them through possible solutions to their problems because at heart Ospreyfoot is a fixer, an adviser. He keeps his friends close and shelters them as best he can, even though the best laid plans don't always come to fruition. Still, he tries his best to be the best provider he can be. In this way, Ospreyfoot is very versatile. He can slip into whatever role he is called for. He can lead a hunting patrol or lead a group of warriors on a border raid. He can be a quiet confidant or someone to spar with until you've screamed out all of your frustrations. Ospreyfoot likes to keep that variety in his life, to keep himself drifting from clanmate to clanmate providing aid wherever he can. His role as the 'adviser' has taught Ospreyfoot the value of secrets, especially kept secrets. His clanmates need never fear him sharing their secrets if only because Ospreyfoot knows all too well that a friend that will keep a secret is more valuable than a betrayer that sells secrets.[/classy] [classy=infotop]history[/classy][classy=infobottom]When he was born, Ospreyfoot is rather pleased to say that there was nothing fantastical about it. His story is a simple one and quite honestly he likes it that way. Born to Darkflower and Sleetfang, Ospreykit had one sister named Duskkit and a brother named Batkit. Through his kithood, Ospreykit got along well with his siblings although he wasn't as close with them as some other litters may have been. In fact, in his early moons Ospreykit was highly autonomous. He would wander off to play and entertain himself for hours all by his lonesome. Many queens were jealous of Darkflower and her well behaved son. When he became Ospreypaw, he was passed into the care of a wiry tabby named Grasspelt. During his apprenticeship, Ospreypaw began to learn the value of secrets, the value of knowing and keeping. The first secret he learned to keep was that of his sister, Duskpaw when one night late in greenleaf, Ospreypaw tracked his sister to the border of RiverClan. There he discovered his sister's affair with a RiverClan tom named Splashpaw. Some others may have gone straight to the leader but instead, Ospreypaw kept his silence. He didn't tell Duskpaw that he knew of her midnight meetings, but instead he protected her in secret. He would cover her scent when he found it too near the border, provide excuses when someone noticed she was missing and even give her openings to slip away. At the time he thought he was just being a good brother. If Duskpaw ever figured out that Ospreypaw knew of her affair, she never said. When, at fourteen moons they became warriors, Ospreyfoot continued looking out for his sister, now named Duskflower. About two moons after their warrior ceremony, Duskflower came forward to announce her pregnancy to the clan and moved into the nursery. No one questioned it, since Duskflower was a pretty she-cat and highly desirable. Ospreyfoot, however, became uneasy the longer his sister's pregnancy went on. She was young and when her time came, it should have been an easy birthing. It wasn't. Duskflower died, bleeding to death in the nursery with her two stillborn kits. With a heavy heart, Ospreyfoot and his brother, Batflight, kept vigil and buried her. The clan never seemed to notice that no tom ever stepped forward to mourn her as his mate. For the next several moons, Ospreyfoot lived his life quietly after the drama of Duskflower's undiscovered affair. Ospreyfoot took one apprentice and then another, keeping his head down and going about his duties without looking for trouble. He opened his ears to his clanmates and offered tidbits of advice but in general didn't go looking for trouble until one night while hunting for his wayward apprentice, Ospreyfoot stumbled upon the meeting of Frostheart and Lynxchaser. With a heavy heart, Ospreyfoot resigned himself to the knowledge he now bore. This time, instead of keeping his silence, he approached Frostheart and swore silence but advised caution. As he had done with Duskflower, Ospreyfoot kept his silence and Frostheart kept hers. For a long while, there was only quiet in the clan with Frostheart becoming deputy until...one night shortly before Badgerstar's death, Frostheart roused Ospreyfoot in the middle of the night and took him into the forest to ask him the most trying question he would ever have to answer. Frostheart needed to cover up a potential pregnancy and wanted a mate. Unlike Duskflower, she wouldn't let the clan wonder who her mate might be and wanted it to be known that she was loyal. Ospreyfoot agreed to keep Frostheart's secret and shelter her and any kits she may carry. His heart, however, was heavy with the decision even as Frostheart became Froststar. Still, he stands by his decision to serve his leader and to hopefully protect her when he couldn't protect Duskflower.[/classy] |
