And once again he looked around at his camp from his new den. Dipping his head slightly he looked down at the ground. Being leader wasn't all it was cracked up to be. It was actually quite lonely. He slept in his own den. Made his own decisions, unless he was in need of the senior warriors, and watched his clan with open eyes. But there was no one to really share it with. Ferngust and Owlsight were usually together on patrols or out hunting. Adderfang wouldn't really talk to him anymore unless they were arguing with each other. The other cats were usually doing their own thing, including Wildfire and Talontail, whom were usually out helping with their warrior duties. Working up to get apprentices of their own. Runningflight was usually with Ashkit, the surviving kit of Lilylight's litter.
Which reminded him, Runningflight had been completely neglecting his warrior duties recently. Nettlestar needed to do something about him before the clan got upset. He just didn't know what should be done. He couldn't MAKE him do anything. Not to mention Runningflight was his BROTHER. His younger brother at that. Though Runningflight was the youngest of his siblings so Nettlestar should know how to get him to behave.
Sighing softly Nettlestar shook his head and stood upright, putting on his brightest expression. There was no sense in being stressed of sad about the situation. He would just have to talk to Fogheart or Ferngust about it later. He could feel his stomach rumbling hungrily.
"Lets get something to eat, then we can go hunting Nettlestar, yeah? How does that sound?" Feeling pretty good about the idea, he ignored that fact that he was talking to himself and then padded over to the freshkill pile and pulled out a squirrel. I wonder who caught this one. If it was an apprentice I would be proud to encourage them for it. he thought to himself as he pulled it out with his claws and then looked around at the cats with glittering eyes.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu167/Rippedshadow/Templates/wildmid.png] Today was a great day. A fantastic day. Albeit Wildfang would even call it a glorious day. And why in StarClan's name would that be? For one thing, he was back in the game. The past couple of days Wildfang had been in a rather gloomy state, one that he had issues trying to overcome. But after the death of his old leader and the birth of a new one, being Nettlestar, Wildfang felt up to par once more. Especially when he managed to flirt his way out of trouble with a she-cat from WindClan.
A simple border skirmish, but all Wildfang had to do was flash a pretty smile, give her the look that said he could promise the world, and then not deliver it. To some that might appear as cruel and vain, but to Wildfang it was simply life. And in life you made your own decisions and chose your own destiny. A feat in which Wildfang was quite familiar.
Working up a bit of an appetite he made his way to the fresh kill pile to see Nettlestar standing about, a squirrel hanging limply from his jaws. With a small grin Wildfang pawed at a mouse and looked at his leader. "Now now Nettlestar. I do so hope you aren't eating that big thing all by yourself. You'll lose your wonderful figure." he chuckled.
Okay. In retrospect Wildfang may come across as disrespectful, but it wasn't that. He just liked to lighten the mood whenever possible. And that sad looking expression that Nettlestar had as enough to worry dear Wildfang.

what else could he do but watch as wildfang came padding over to the freshkill pile. what was nettlestar supposed to do? walk away just as he comes to the pile and go sit down by himself? that would be disrespectful to the former thunderclan deputy on the one paw. on the other paw, nettlestar was quite lonely so maybe a couple words with the silly tom might cheer him up a bit.
"now now nettlestar. i do so hope you aren't eating that big thing all by yourself. you'll lose your wonderful figure." |
[/i] nettlestar blinked with a bit of surprise in his eyes at the tom's first few words. glancing back at himself, he did realize that he was quite thin and somewhat small for a tom. he normally didn't notice that very much, because honestly he didn't really care. with the way that wildfang said his sentance though nettlestar couldn't help but purr in delight. he dropped the squirrel on his paws and regarded wildfang directly. "alright you got me wildfang, you could share with me if you like. your probably right anyway. i doubt i could finish this all by myself. care to share a meal with me?" in all honesty, nettlestar enjoyed wildfang's company. he was a funny tom and sometimes he wondered how the black and white cat had gained the place of deputy at one time. but nettlestar respected him for that experience. he loved to listen to wildfang's crazy stories of that time. what had bothered nettlestar a bit, however was the fact that wildfang had stepped down and a few moons later, with the crippling of the deputy after him, nettlestar had taken his place though he was a bit younger then wildfang. [assuming you have been playing wildfang for a few moons]. i wonder if i could get some kind of advice out of him. even though he can get a bit goofy at times. he was still chosen as deputy at one point in his life time. i was still a young warrior then. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu167/Rippedshadow/Templates/wildmid.png] An amused purred erupted from the young tom. The look on Nettlestar's face was a cross between shock and concern before turning into a smile. Sometimes Wildfang had a gift with words, and today was one such day. Grinning Wildfang nodded. "I was just pulling your tail my friend. Of course I won't turn down a meal with you." Giving his tail a flick he placed the mouse he had back onto the pile.
Looking back at Nettlestar the tom titled his head. Nettlestar looked to be lost in thought, and with a small jolt he realized that if Wildfang himself hadn't given up his deputyship he would be leader right now. He shuddered visibly at the thought and thanked StarClan. it wasn't that he couldn't be a leader, he was sure he would be fine. However, being only half ThunderClan made him weary, and the thought of all those who would doubt him...well...he couldn't stand it.
However, that was besides the point.
Blinking himself back into reality he smiled at Nettlestar. "So, where would you like to dine?" Looking around camp he saw many cats were already eating and sharing tongues in their own groups. There was always the option to join one, however Wildfang didn't think that was what Nettlestar had on his mind. And not that it really was any of his business, Wildfang was curious. And one day that curiosity will end up being the death of you. his mind thought. No matter. What mattered now was his hunger which was now an audible growl he was fairly certain Nettlestar could hear. "Seems my stomach is demanding today. Just can't keep it tied down." he purred.

Nettlestar purred in delight at Wildfang's acceptance to his offer. Now excited that he had a companion, Nettlestar looked around the clearing. Where should they sit and eat. He could tell that many of his favorite spots were already taken by other groups of cats with their own freshkill.
Suddenly the young leader smiled as he noticed a spot a few fox-lengths away in the shade under the high rock. Bingo! he thought excitedly as he turned back to address Wildfang. As he did so he heard the black and white warrior's stomach growl like a fox. "Seems my stomach is demanding today. Just can't keep it tied down." |
[/b] Nettlestar purred in response. "You sounded like a thunder cloud rolled by. Too bad you weren't named Wildthunder instead of Wildfang. it might have fit you better." He said in a amusement before picking up the squirrel once again. Then he said through a mouthful, "Come over here. We can eat under the highrock. Its a good place to eat on a hot greenleaf day, don't you think?" With that Nettlestar spun around and, without looking to see if Wildfang had followed him, went to go and sit by the highrock with his meal in front of him. He graciously waited for Wildfang to sit beside him before he would eat. He was hungry, but he knew that he probably wasn't as hungry as the former deputy. Nettlestar usually wasn't too hungry and he wondered why he had chosen to eat the big squirrel anyway. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu167/Rippedshadow/Templates/wildmid.png] Wildfang looked at Nettlestar with a small smile. Wildthunder huh...the name had a nice ring to it...but he preferred his own name. Of course when you live with a name for so long, you get attached. He couldn't imagine being an elder who changed their name. He remembered his grandfather had been called Halfear when Wildfang was just a kit. As a warrior he was a strong and powerful warrior by the name of Lioncall. However later in his life a battle with a fox left him with only one ear, and barely able to hear out of his good one so he changed his name to join the elders.
Shaking himself out of his thoughts Wildfang bounded over to meet Nettlestar, feeling a wonder relief from the sun under the high rock. "Ph sweet and glorious shade, how I love thee." he meowed, lying down happily. Not wanting to take the first bite he waited for Nettlestar, his gaze traveling over the cats. Once again, Wildfang's mind began to wander. "So...is being leader everything you hoped it would be?" he asked, not meeting his gaze. It was then Wildfang realized it was probably a question best left unsaid, but it was too late.
"Forgive me, you don't have to answer. I'm just in one of those moods. If you have questions for me, by all means go for it. I seem to bombard everyone with them for no reason anymore." he chuckled. "I suppose this is where the term 'curiosity killed the cat' came from. And now I'm rambling...sorry." Wildfang purred and sat back up, giving a small yawn.

nettlestar smiled at wildfang, pleased that the warrior had followed him to the high rock. he knew that the tom would wait for him to take the first bite from the squirrel, so as wildfang mused to himself about the shade the silver tom lowered his head and took a bite.
"So...is being leader everything you hoped it would be?" |
[/i] the question caught nettlestar off guard when it was asked. he actually had to stop chewing his food to listen to wildfang ramble about it being a stupid question and that he didn't have to answer it and how if he had his own questions he should ask them now. he honestly had to stare at wildfang for a few moments afterward before he could finish chewing his food and respond. in fact when he was able to swallow he found himself purring in amusement. "i have always found you to be very amusing wildfang and pleasing to hang around. you ask questions because you are a warrior of thunderclan and for that very reason you could have been chosen as deputy perhaps. i would have chosen you again for the position, but i feared you would have turned me down so i resorted to my second and more thought over choice, leopardfang. i am not bothered by your question and you have every right to ask it. more then anyone perhaps." he looked down at the squirrel and his expression changed, only slightly, to something more serious. "i don't really think i had any expectations about becoming leader except that it would be a long and difficult road. my only thought is to keep the clan safe from harm and that is what i'm out to accomplish. if in fact i am able to make them into a great clan in the process, then i could consider myself lucky to have such wonderful felines by my side. however, i find the position very lonely. i miss hanging out with my siblings and friends and i don't find myself with quite so much company as i did before. i feel completely separated from the cats that i so dearly care about and i don't quite know what i am to do with this. it would please me to find a friend to guide me or a mate to support me in this journey, but... well, i shouldn't get you into my deepest feelings. that very rude on my part." he shook his head and lightened his mood a question and an offer on the tip of his barbed pink tongue. "i have an offer for you that I would like you to consider if you were willing to listen. you don't have to of course, but at least hear me out." his eyes were brightened and he became excited, his food being quickly forgotten. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu167/Rippedshadow/Templates/wildmid.png] Wildfang nearly choked on the squirrel. He had bent down to take a bite while Nettlestar thought about answering his question, and when Nettlestar purred that was when Wildfang almost choked. Chewing the food carefully he swallowed and gave his leader a look of wonder. Seriously. He was laughing about it. To him, it seemed odd. i mean, it was sort of out of line. Then again, Wildfang was always the odd cat out in many things, and this also included what he thought was right and wrong. And clearly Nettlestar didn't seem to care.
That Nettlestar had even thought of choosing Wildfang as a deputy is what surprised him most. More and more Wildfang felt that he would never be up to being a leader. The thought of caring for a whole clan terrified him most. Clearly there was something others saw in him, that he didn't seem himself. But isn't that always the way? It's like a beautiful shining star that only see's itself as a giant rock, when really it sparkles with a beauty unparalleled. "I'm flattered Nettlestar, both that you find me amusing and that you thought to choose me as deputy. But I think Leopardfang is going to be an excellent deputy." he mewed.
Listening to Nettlestar Wildfang shook his head in agreement. That was another thing Wildfang didn't like about the idea of being a leader. While you were in charge of the whole clan, and therefore an important part, you were also distanced. Your free time was far and in-between. You had to make difficult decisions. And things would never be like they were, no matter how much you wished it. It made the tom shiver at the thought, and he shook his pelt to rid himself of the thought. He certainly didn't envy Nettlestar in that way. In fact, he admired him more than anything.
"I have an offer for you that I would like you to consider if you were willing to listen. You don't have to of course, but at least hear me out." At this Wildfang's ears perked. Chuckling he smiled at Nettlestar. "By all means my friend, speak to me. You have no idea how curious I am." he laughed. "Then again, maybe you do."
