YOU THINK THAT YOU CAN TAKE ME ON?

- - - - YOU MUST BE CRAZY
The day was exhausting as it was boring. Lichenpaw figured that didn’t make much sense, but that was sure what it felt like. Dragged out of his warm and cozy nest early that morning to help hunt for the clan, not that he had been able to help much in his exhausted state. He’d managed to snag a fish (maybe two, he couldn’t quite remember), though truthfully he had just moped around until the older cats had decided they had caught enough prey for the moment and had trudged back to camp, Lichen practically dragging his small contribution with him. He had placed it with the rest of the fresh-kill pile, gave the other cats a politely forced smile, and had trudged right back to the apprentice den, plopping himself right outside with a huff.
But he was too awake now to sleep again, which was truly the most frustrating feeling ever. He’d almost dozed off a few times as the sun continued to situate itself in the sky, but as the camp grew louder and more awake, so did he. But what could he do now? Certainly not more work, no, he had done his fill that morning. Was there maybe someone he could bother? Basilpaw briefly drifted through his mind, but Lichenpaw quickly banished that idea. He knew Shadestar’s passing had really hurt the other apprentice, and while he normally wasn’t one to care too much about another’s feelings, he decided against bothering the older apprentice. He knew he wasn’t the best at comforting others (he was absolute shit at it, actually), so he figured the best thing he could do was give Basilpaw some space to recover.
So then that left him with nothing to do. So nothing is exactly what he did, sprawling out in the entrance to the apprentice den with no intention of moving any time soon. True, it was quite pathetic to be acting so lazy as a young apprentice, but that was those blasted warrior’s fault for dragging him out of his nice den to catch fish at a dreadful hour of the morning. So he would make his laziness and exhaustion quite pronounced and obvious to the passing cats while blocking the entrance to the apprentice den. All those other cats needed to get out and get fresh air or whatever, not sit around in the den all day! He was doing them a favor or something like that. He snorted softly with amusement at the thought, resting his head on his paws as he peered out at the other cats going about their lives in the camp. Hm. This whole relaxing thing was kind of nice, as boring was it was. Maybe he could just spend the rest of the day like this, no distractions, no cats, no nothing. Just himself relaxing in camp and glaring at any apprentice that even looked like they were about to try and step over him to get into the apprentice den. Yes, perfection.
