Her long amber pelt was still matted, and her eyes were still filled with sleep. The night before she hadn't gotten much sleep, and Amberblaze wished she had forced herself to catch some kind of sleep after her evening meal, but her mind had been racing too fast for her to settle into her nest. So, making sure to not disturb her other den-mates, she got up and went for a nighttime hunt. She had been back in her nest by moonhigh, but it still felt like she had only just closed her eyes before she was waking up again this morning.
Now, though, she padded towards the freshkill pile and grabbed one of the smallest mice. Even though it was Newleaf and the prey was running quite well, the pile was a lot lower than it should be. Amberblaze would assign a few hunting patrols throughout the day, and by the end of the day the pile should be stocked nice and high. Settling down at the edge of the clearing, it took only a matter of seconds, it seemed, for the she-cat to finish her meal. After she finished, she began to groom her pelt, trying to get all the matts out before her clanmates started to wake up.
By the time she finished grooming her pelt, the dawn patrol had waken and left, and all the rest of her clanmates were starting to stir. Seeing a few of them, she walked over and began making the patrols for the day. It was mid morning by the time she was done with all of her duties, and she hadn't assigned herself to a patrol until that evening. Amberblaze did this because she wanted to hunt, but she also wanted to be by herself and think for a little while. So, after making sure everycat was doing okay and doing what they were told to do, she headed for the gorse tunnel.
Amberblaze decided she would start hunting by the Tallpines. She was in no hurry to get there, and took her time as she strolled through the forest. It was a beautiful day out, and she cherished the sun that was beating down on her pelt, keeping her warm against the dew that still clung to all the plants around her. On her way there, though, Amberblaze was confronted with a very stupid mouse that seemed to just be begging to be caught by her, so, naturally, she caught it. After the killing blow, she purred at how easy prey was coming to them this season, and burried the plump thing, knowing she would come back for her kill later on after she was completely done hunting.
Upon arrival at the Tallpines, Amberblaze became very serious. This is the place where she would be finding food for her clan, so she had to be. Sniffing the air, she got low to the ground, trying to find any kind of scent that would lead her to some prey. After a few foxlengths, she found what she was looking for: the scent of squirrel. Swiveling her ears, she quickly pinpointed where the prey was, and slowly started stalking toward it. It was a fat little thing, it must have been young. Therefore, it was stupid and naive to the danger around. Getting as close to it as she could, Amberblaze gave chase, and after only a few bounds, was able to hook her claws into it, killing it swiftly.
After staying at Tallpines for a while longer, Amberblaze was pleased with her catch. She had the her first catch the squirrel, then went on to finding another mouse, and lastly, a black bird that was half the size of her. She knew she would probably have to ask another warrior to retrieve the large catch for her, because she knew she wouldn't be able to handle carrying it all. But Amberblaze knew she wasn't done hunting quite yet. She still wanted to try her luck out at Sunning Rocks, and maybe even get a drink from the river. Starting off at a brisk trot, it didn't take her long to arrive at her destination. Not having anything to drink all day, and being in the heat of the sun, she decided she would have something to drink first. Padding over to the river, she hunched down and began lapping at the cool, fast-moving water.
