LINK[/classy] [classy=infotop]personality[/classy][classy=infobottom]jaywing is a very focused cat. she does not like being interrupted and she will snap when she is. she is not one to hold back her emotions in fear of hurting one's feelings. she's blunt and will tell you how it is. however, she is quite secretive. if you don't need to know it, you won't know it. she's got a good heart, though, and she does tend to take things to heart, whether she shows it or not. especially whenever she knows she won't be able to save a cat. guilt twists her belly into knots and nightmares plague her. it is her responsibility, after all, to keep cats alive. one thing she won't do, however, is hide it from the cat if she knows they will pass to starclan soon. she thinks that is sort of cruel, because if it was he dying, she'd like to say goodbye before she passed. jaywing is very calculative. she's got a knack for watching body language and is great at figuring out what's on a cat's mind. observation is one of her best skills, and she quite enjoys making others' squirm with uncomfort under her knowing gaze. she won't show her smile, but it's there anyhow. she enjoys long strolls through the territory and will often pluck a warrior out to join her. she'll prod them and ask questions. of course, she uses the cover of herb gathering. jaywing enjoys getting to know what her clanmates are thinking or how they are feeling. sometimes they get a little awkward and close up, and other times she ends up just listening to them rant. either way, she likes the company.[/classy] [classy=infotop]history[/classy][classy=infobottom]three kits were born in the first litter of mistpelt and lionclaw. fogkit, brightkit, and jaykit, in that order. though fogkit was the oldest and only tom, brightkit was the obvious leader of the trio. she was the most outgoing and most creative. she often lead them into "battles" against dark spirits and, of course, they always came out victorious. the trio often got in trouble because of brightkit, but she easily wove her way under the skin of the warriors and even some apprentices. she didn't even have to try, she was just that likeable. jaykit didn't mind. she loved her sister like everyone else. they were actually very close. they dreamed of growing up to be great warriors. brighkit had sighed dreamily after that, and curled up for sleep to come to her. but jaykit's mind was reeling, and an odd feeling stirring in her stomach didn't help. yes, of course she was going to be a great warrior. that was her path. there was no other, except the path of a medicine cat, and brackenheart already had an apprentice, littlepaw. jaykit squeezed her eyes shut and waited until blackness overtook her. the next morning she'd learned that littlepaw had been searching for berries and had gotten caught in a foxtrap. she hadn't come back. jaykit stared wide-eyed at the warriors she overheard it from. guilt twisted her stomach and she felt like she was going to get sick, because last night she had wished that littlepaw was gone, not dead, so she could be a medicine cat. she turned tail and laid down on her mossy bedding, heart thumping like thunder in her ears. she hadn't wanted this to happen and she wished that she could just take back all she said. her sixth moon was just around the corner and she, along with brightkit and fogkit, were sitting in a tight circle to one side of the camp. jaykit was silent, lost in her head, while her two older siblings babbled on about how great being apprentices would be and oh, what will their warrior names be? the little grey kit shut her blue eyes tightly, trying to relax her racing pulse, before speaking softly. 'i want to be a medicine cat.' she wasn't sure they'd heard her, because they were still talking when she said it, but when she opened her eyes, their jaws were hung open and both pairs of eyes were trained on her. then they broke out into big smiles, and so did she. brackenheart had pulled her into his den that night and spoke to her about her wishes. he had been thinking of her as well, apparently, after littlepaw. the name brought a fresh wave of grief over her. and so, moons later, brightpaw, fogpaw, and jaypaw were all thriving in their training. fogpaw had a secret talent of tracking that none of them knew about and brightpaw turned out to be very agile. jaypaw figured out she was great at taking in the details, and all three were as close as ever. on one especially sunny newleaf morning, the three went off into the territory. a warrior was trailing behind, of course, but they were happy. jaypaw sighted a tall patch of grass a few foxlengths in front of them and bounded toward it, leaving her siblings in the dust. they yowled in mock annoyance and chased after her. laughing bubbled up into the clear blue sky, and even the tired warrior behind them broke into a smile. jaypaw was giggling happily until a sharp shriek of pain split through the sounds. she knew it was brightpaw. jaypaw screamed her name, depserately trying to find her in the maze of grass. she heard fogpaw as well, and bumped into him. the warrior was yelling at them, already having bursted into the patch. brightpaw had gotten her front leg stuck in a foxtrap. she'd already bled out by the time they found her. jaypaw started heaving and shaking because no, no this wasn't happening. fogpaw stared in utter disbelief and shock, and she thinks she heard him whimper. the warrior was trying to calm them, but it wasn't helping. she fled, and fogpaw was close behind. the warrior yelled after them, but eventually he let them go. jaypaw ran until her legs were shaking too hard to hold her up, and she curled up into a tight ball of tremors. fogpaw was close behind, wrapping around her and holding her close to him. the two laid in silence, only the sound of their labored breaths filled the too-bright air. they spent the rest of the day like this, curled up on the edge of windclan's territory. they couldn't go back home, because they'd have to face the reality again. that their bouncy, brilliant, beloved sister was dead. to the same thing that had taken littlepaw. she buried her face into fogpaw's fur. twelve moons rolled around. fogpaw became fogstep. a few moons later, brackenheart proudly named jaypaw, jaywing. she embraced it. it represented change. she needed change.
