She enjoys seeing others in pain, and the emotion fascinates her, even in herself. The rogue has a distinct disdain for anything Clan-related, and calls Clan cats "kits." Kin frustrates them endlessly by refusing to use Clan suffixes. She's also convinced Clan cats are nothing more than "toys" set upon this earth for her to break, shatter or fracture mentally and physically as she sees fit. Playing with her "toys," whether by fighting or deception, is a favorite pastime. The rarity that is a cat willing to heal rogues and loners amuses her too. The healer is proud to be among the few that only cares what profit comes from healing a cat. Kin has made several allies this way, bartering her skill for food and acceptance. She employs several different "masks" for dealing with various situations and temperaments, misleading and charming her way to the desired result. The tiny she-cat can expertly play any role from the shy, meek loner to the confident seductress, to the fierce mercenary. Exceptions are made for her loved ones. They enjoy a rare glimpse into the core of who Kin is: a cat who feels isolated from others and lashes out at others to try and make them feel the same way she does; however, a side of her genuinely loves to heal cats.[/classy] [classy=infotop]history[/classy][classy=infobottom]Kin was born to a pair of runaway kittypets, Morpheus and Samhain, in a barn. Her siblings Grave, Viper and she were separated not long after, as their parents were killed by a fox. Weak and confused, she stumbled into a shanty town and across an old friend of her father's. He'd known the scrawny black tom in his youth and met Samhain's mate once, in passing. Reaper had seen much of her parents in the undersized, half-starved kit. Life was hard with the alley cat. He taught her how to hunt rats almost the same size as her, to fight with the fury of a protective mother when there was nothing to save but her pride. Reaper also tore into her mentally, ruthlessly shredding any innocence she had left. His often cruel treatment was slowly met with the beginnings of her masks. One of the last things the ragged gray tom gave her before he was killed by another alley tom was her name; she'd forgotten quite a few things while lost, including her birth name. The tiny she-cat left the shanty town with the name Kin. She roamed from place to place, seeking shelter with different Clans and being denied. Mountains, plains, even a forest housing a single Clan- she'd appealed to every group she could find for acceptance. After she finally gave up hope, Kin lurked around medicine cat dens and twoleg veterinary clinics, picking up bits and pieces of healing knowledge. Her wanderings eventually brought her to territory near a forest, and there Kin centered her meandering, restless movements. As a rogue who could not always hunt successfully every day, Kin learned to barter her medicinal skills for food and protection from larger cats. She began to cultivate a reputation as an indifferent healer, only caring for what each patient could barter for treatment. Though she met and formed a bond with two cats, Rosethorn (who viewed Kin as a foster mother, and was in turn viewed as a foster daughter) and Abyss, the former remained with a Clan to substitute the medicine cat Kin had slowly murdered. Abyss simply floated in and out of Kin's life, the two banding together temporarily whenever they happened to cross paths. They have not met since Rosethorn's departure. Kin will sometimes leave the forest and surrounding area to visit Rosethorn's Clan, where she is still reviled for her deeds. There, her name is whispered with hatred and fear, and disobedient kits are told the story of the last medicine cat's slow and torturous demise, threatened with Kin's presence if they misbehave. In addition to Rosethorn and Abyss, Kin finds two young cats important: Abyss's kits Night and Day. She views them as a business investment, and plans on training Night to be her assistant in healing, and Day their muscle. Since Abyss had shrugged the responsibility for them off on the rogue, who'd helped in their birthing, Kin had pawned them off on a kittypet. The healer visits regularly, as their Auntie Kin.
