She tends to be very compassionate, but also a very no-nonsense sort of cat. She is affectionate and not unduly social. Though she isn't shy or particularly quiet either. She lingers somewhere between the two extremes. Though she definitely behaves differently with kittens than she does around her fellow warriors. With her kittens, Ashcloud is a watchful but loving mother. She rejoices in their every accomplishment and luxuriates in their presence. But at the same time, she won’t hesitate to give them a good talking-to should they need it. She is a very good listener and tends to be sought out for her advice. Though Ashcloud has no children of her own, she views every kitten that comes through the clan as at least partially her own. However, towards the negative side, she tends to be very easily scared. And she also has significant self-confidence issues. Due to her twisted foot, she is very guilt-ridden about her inability to protect the clan. She also tends to be a bit babied, despite being a full-grown and capable warrior-turned-queen. She also fears that if she makes a mistake, she’ll be manipulated into becoming an elder. She fears being separated from the kittens she loves, and slowly waiting to waste away. All together, this adds up to a compassionate, gentle, insecure she-cat. She embodies her warrior name of Ashcloud, as she has a lot of gentleness, but can easily be overlooked. She prefers to stay in the background of clan life, to spend time with her kittens than her clan.[/classy] [classy=infotop]history[/classy][classy=infobottom]Ashcloud was born Ashkit, the daughter of Thunderclan warriors Cinderleg and Hemlockfoot. Cinderleg and Hemlockfoot were already significantly older when Ashkit was born. Unlike many mated pairs, they had only begun to court after each was past their fiftieth moon. It wasn't that they had had any sort of adversary in their early moons. Rather it was that, for a majority of the time, they simply hadn't noticed each other. They had been on separate patrols, had separate friends. They had never truly had a chance to get to know each other. However, as they got older, they found themselves occasionally conversing. They shared a meal, shared tongues. Soon each began to look forward to time with the other. They had already become close to being senior warriors by this time. Some tutted their tongues, looked pityingly for they hadn't had the chance to breed early. But Cinderleg and Hemlockfoot didn't mind. They were happy to simply find company in each other. Much to everyone's surprise, Cinderleg found she was pregnant shortly after her fifty-seventh moon. There was much concern, especially by the Medicine Cat and Hemockfoot. They feared her age could mean a difficult pregnancy and even more difficult labor. Cinderleg came along slowly, and eventually her time for birth came. The labor was shorter than anticipated, and painful. At the end, she gave birth to two female kittens - Ashkit and Willowkit. The Medicine Cat was relieved, but cautioned her that she should avoid having further litters, to protect herself. Cinderleg and Hemlockfoot didn't mind, they were enchanted with their two tiny daughters - loved them dearly. The two little girls were doted upon, unusually so. Ashkit and Willowkit became apprentices, Ashpaw and Willowpaw. Their aging parents attended every possible training session, asked their daughters about what they had done each day. The little family was never far apart. After all, Willowpaw and Ashpaw were all Cinderleg and Hemlockfoot had. Their parents sat proudly at the front most foot of the Highrock when Ashpaw and Willowpaw became warriors. The two little she-cats became Ashcloud and Willowbranch. They moved into the warriors den, the whole family finally sleeping together. It was after her warrior ceremony that Ashcloud first encountered Ospreyfoot. He was a good deal older than her, but handsome and charming. She admired him from afar, not with any serious intention – just a quiet sort of appreciation. She never spoke to him, but she didn’t need his presence. It was enough to quietly watch. After all, most of her attention was on the Nursery. She visited nearly each day. One afternoon, she got assigned to a border patrol, one Ospreyfoot happened to be on. She was still young, barely past her twentieth moon. She passed the Shadowclan/Riverclan border, and met a patrol. Unfortunately, tension turned into misunderstanding, misunderstanding into violence. Ashcloud found herself matched against a large tabby tom whom she recognized from Gatherings as a warrior named Alderthorn. He crushed her easily. He pinned her, but underestimated the effect of his weigh. It descended on her front paw harder than he had intended. There was a sickening snap, a series of unnatural sounds. She screeched, her pain echoing through the pines. She had to be carried back to the camp. She was given poppy seeds. She faded in and out of consciousness, her pain numbed by the herbs. When she awoke, her front paw was twisted. It was unable to be reset. She eventually learned to walk again, how to put weight on her twisted paw. But she moved slowly, and with a limp. Warriors began to whisper about her retirement. Ashcloud was desperate she could still be of use. But what could she do? She moved slowly, with a visible limp. She’d never be able to fight or hunt for herself. It was Froststar, the newly risen leader, who saved her. Froststar suggested she become a queen, that she held care for the clan’s kittens. With a heart filled with relief, Ashcloud became a queen. Though she had no kittens of her own, she cared for the clan’s kittens with every ounce of love in her heart.[/classy] |
